Die präkolumbianischen Völker Ecuadors zeichneten sich durch ihre Tonwaren, Malerie, Skulpturen und Gold- sowie Silberarbeiten aus.

Die vorherrschende Religion ist römisch-katholisch, aber es gibt auch andere Glaubensanhänger wie zum Beispiel Methodisten, Baptisten etc. Die Indigena, äußerlich katholisch, tendieren dazu, den Katholizismus mit ihrem eigenem traditionellem Glauben zu vermischen.

Spanisch ist die Amtssprache. Die meisten Indigenas auf dem Land sind zweisprachig aufgewachsen und sprechen Quechua und Spanisch. Einige kleine Gemeinschaften sprechen auch ihre eigene Sprache. Englisch nützt einem generell nicht so viel, das es lediglich in Reisebüros, bei den Fluggesellschaften und in besseren Hotels gesprochen wird.

Die ecuadorianische Küche besteht aus Suppen und Eintöpfen, Körnerkuchen, Reise, Eiern und Gemüse. Meeresfrüchte sind von excellenter Qualität und natürlich gibt es auch ungewöhnlichere lokale Spezialitäten wie zum Beispiel gegrilltes Meerschweinchen.

Und das sagte eine ehemalige Austauschschülerin über Ecuador:

"As far as actual cultural aspects, Ecuador has much to offer. The first things that come to mind are the music, food, festivities, the indigenous presence, and the functioning of the families. The music in Ecuador might be one of my favorite things. The two types of music that one doesn't get the chance to hear that much are the folk music of Ecuador and Salsa.

The food is also a nice cultural aspect in Ecuador. There is almost always rice integrated in with whatever type of food that is being served. The main meal in Ecuador is lunch and before the main course there is always some kind of soup.

In Ecuador, I find that there are many holidays and festivities that I had never heard of before and with every one of them there is some kind of traditional activity that is always fun to take part in. Also, one of things that I have found very interesting is the presence of the indigenous or native population. They are seen in all parts and it appears that they have a very beautiful culture with many rich ethnic aspects.

Ecuador has some of the most beautiful tropical rain forests in the world and it is always quite breathtaking seeing that, especially for the first time.The Galapagos islands are also part of Ecuador. It is a wonderful country worth living in."
